Rutile is frequently found as an accessory mineral in metamorphic and igneous rocks under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions. Thermodynamically, it remains the most stable polymorph of TiO2 across all temperatures, demonstrating lower total free energy compared to metastable phases like anatase or brookite.
